When to go to A&E

Beware there is no A & E Department at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup.

Attending the Urgent Care Centre at QMH will only delay your treatment.

When should I go to A&E?

If you have had a significant accident

If you have:

  • Severe chest pain
  • Breathlessness
  • Convulsion
  • Weakness on one side of the body or are vomiting blood

The NHS is free at the point of delivery. This does not mean that the NHS is free; you pay for it through your taxes.

We, as your GP Practice, have a limited budget for your healthcare needs. It is in your interests to make sure the funds are utilised fairly and to the best effect.

We consider that we have a good record of accessibility; i.e. we review all urgent cases within 24-48 hours.

We ask you please do not use the Hospital A&E/Urgent Care Centre for problems that can be dealt with by us. If you use the hospital inappropriately you will deprive the practice of vital funding.

If you use services outside the practice, we have to pay for them from our budget. As a consequence, others may suffer. Please think wisely before you use hospital services - there is a price.

People with genuine emergencies should of course use the emergency services. We are trying to discourage those who do not genuinely need such a service.

Thank you in anticipation of your cooperation.
